Basic Expedition Leader Award

The Basic Expedition Leader Award is a nationally recognised qualification for anyone (aged 18 or over) who wishes to:

bulletlead parties or groups in lowland areas
bullettrain people in the basic skills involved in journeying on foot in the British Isles in summer conditions
bulletorganise base and standing camps
bulletbe responsible for the care of others out-of-doors

The Air Training Corps undertakes many of its activities out of doors, ranging from Duke of Edinburgh award expeditions to day walks, navigation exercises and "green" camps. BELA is becoming the minimum nationally recognised qualification for anyone responsible for training and supervising groups for these activities.  If your unit does navigation exercises, Duke of Edinburgh award expeditions (bronze or silver), camping trips or green camps, you will need someone with at least a BELA qualification to train the cadets and supervise the activity.

The Herts & Bucks Wing adventure training group has been working to establish BELA training within the wing, and is currently seeking accreditation as a course provider.
